Sofia Arsenal - Museum of Contemporary Art

Sofia Arsenal - Museum of Contemporary Art was opened in 2011. To 2017 its program includes nearly a hundred events. Through 2015 and 2016 initiated new projects. "Space - audience" represents spatial visualization, bound by the museum building, its history, transformation, they, who visit. "Autobiography" develops documentation of contemporary art from the 1990s onwards. "Theater in the Museum" supports the creation of performances and enriches exhibition halls with new ideas, values ​​and stomach.

For Sofia Arsenal

The museum building is a real architectural cultural heritage of local significance, part of the historic complex “Sofia Arsenal”. Built in 1916, originally it was used for production and storage of artillery ammunition. In the 30s until the end of World War II it housed the headquarters of the School for Reserve Officers. Since the beginning of 1970 to 2003 It is available on the newly created National Gallery for Arts and crafts.

The first stage of reconstruction - the construction of exhibition space on the first floor – It is carried out by the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area (2009-2014) designed by the architectural studio “Brothers BROS ".

The next stage envisages the completion of the second and top floor, construction of a depot and a separate building for temporary exhibitions.
